Ice Solution
Ice Solution is an innovative points heating system which uses a readily available heat source: geothermal energy. A completely enclosed, vertical heat exchanger is embedded under the ground. The geothermal energy is supplied to the rail heat exchanger via insulated pipes. When heat is needed, the system initially uses passive heating, drawing on the heat stored in the ground during the summer when points temperatures were high.

System
The system has an intelligent controller, which switches it on and off as required. This means that the system only runs when it is needed. Icesolution is highly reliable and provides guaranteed snow clearance at snowfall rates of 5cm per hour or higher if required, enhancing the availability of rail infrastructure.
Icesolution uses exceptionally little energy; 80% less energy than other systems while use of environmentally-friendly geothermal energy reduces CO2 emissions almost to zero.
Icesolution uses high-quality components, the new rail heat exchanger and precise monitoring which means it only requires maintenance once every five years. We are working closely with Ice Solution VOF, as part of the VolkerWessels Group to further develop the system for the UK as an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution to energy efficient points heating.
