Celebrating 100 years of women in transport

Recent

Two aspiring female employees of VolkerRail are starring in a video by Transport for London (TfL) to celebrate 100 years of women in transport.

The video showcases the excellent achievements of TfL’s ‘Women in Transport’ campaign and its supporters since it was launched in November 2014. Hollie Woodard, project manager, and Sarah Glasgow, resource coordinator, were approached for an interview and to take part in the video.

Hollie said: “I am honoured to have been able to take part in such a great project. As an active promotor of women in transport, I jumped at the chance to be involved. It was great to spend time with the film team both in our head office and on site and talk about my experiences.”

The video was launched at the Women in Transport legacy launch in London, on Monday 16 May.

Assistant project manager at Transport for London, Violetta Lynch, was part of the steering group behind this campaign and said: “100 years ago marked a significant moment in transport history. As the First World War raged on, large numbers of men enlisted for military service. To keep London and the UK moving, women took over the responsibilities of male transport staff in a wide range of roles.

“To celebrate this milestone, ‘100 Years of Women in Transport’ was launched. The campaign has aimed to engage, motivate and inspire current and future generations of transport workers, with representatives from across transport coming together to make a commitment to change. This video allowed us to showcase those changes and I would like to thank Hollie and Sarah for taking part.”
