Touch rugby tournament raises money for charity

Recent

VolkerRail took part in the Rail Rugby 2017 - Touch Rugby Tournament, to raise funds for the Railway Children charity.

The event, now in its third year, was held at Rugby school, Rugby; one of the oldest independent schools in Britain and raised over £35,000.

Eleven teams from across the rail industry, played in 20 minute group stage matches before battling it out for a place in the quarter and semi-finals. VolkerRail succeeded in making it all the way through to the final, but unfortunately came in second on the day, being defeated by Taylor Woodrow 3 -1.

Commenting on the event, team captain and senior project manager at VolkerRail, Darren Lockwood said: “Events such as these provide companies with the opportunity to have fun, play rugby against some great teams and raise money for a good cause. It was great to see the VolkerRail spirit and character shine through and a good time was had by all.”

The Railway Children charity provides protection and opportunities for children, across the UK, India and East Africa who have nowhere else to go and nobody to turn to.
