VolkerRail supports Barnabus homeless charity

To help support the work being done under the Manchester Homelessness Partnership (MHP), VolkerRail has donated £1,000 to Barnabus, a homeless charity in Manchester.

The MHP is a network of organisations that work together to end homelessness in all its forms in Manchester, through the aims and values of the Manchester Homelessness Charter.

Barnabus, a charity which aims to bring hope to the homeless and vulnerable, is part of the MHP and runs the Beacon Support Centre, which offers help with  accommodation, rehabilitation, practical support, healthcare, skills training and links to employment opportunities.

The funding donated by VolkerRail will help support the centre, and the services it offers to the local community, and will also help the charity provide critical items to those who need them the most.

Alongside VolkerRail’s donation, employees situated in our office in Manchester raised £200 to go towards essential food supplies at Christmas. Employees worked with the office’s landlord to promote Barnabus’ Christmas donation appeal and, along with the donation, organised a building-wide collection of food and clothes.

The team has also completed a volunteer day with the charity, to decorate its accommodation. More volunteering activities are being planned for the future.

Howard Coney, VolkerRail environmental advisor, said: “It’s been great to learn about the work Barnabus does for the Manchester community, and it is impressive to see how they support the homeless with everyday needs, helping them back into accommodation and employment.

We look forward to arranging more volunteer days with them in the future.”

Alex Spinks, a representative from Barnabus, said: “VolkerRail has been a brilliant supporter of our work, ever since they first visited our Support Centre in autumn 2021.”

“VolkerRail’s practical donations have helped us keep our shelves full throughout winter, and the £1,000 donation will help us keep our centres lights on and the showers hot.

“We are excited to see what we can achieve together throughout 2022.”
