DLR 6 Stratford International Extension

London

This project involved the conversion of existing rail infrastructure to Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and the formation of a new DLR link. Funded by Transport for London's Investment Programme and a contribution from the Olympic Delivery Authority, this project played a key role in transport for the 2012 Olympic Games and acted as a catalyst for regeneration in East London.

VolkerRail in joint venture with Skanska, with design provided by Mott Macdonald, were appointed as principal contractor by DLR to deliver this bespoke design and build contract.

The 4.6km Stratford International Extension Project included the detailed design and construction of works associated with the extension of the DLR network from Canning Town to Stratford International, using the redundant Network Rail North London line formation.

Renovation of Canning Town, West Ham and Stratford International station was undertaken alongside the construction of a new 3.5km long twin line track and the construction of four new stations at Star Lane, Abbey Road, Stratford High Street and Stratford.

The new line now runs up to Stratford International leading from Canning Town station, passing through Star Lane station, West Ham station, Abbey Road station, Stratford High Street station and Stratford.
