Manchester Metrolink - Trafford Park Line

MPT, a joint venture of VolkerRail and Laing O'Rourke in consortium with Thales is continuing its strong relationship with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and constructing the major new Metrolink line for Trafford Park.

The new 5.5km routeTrafford Park line will have six new tram stops, offering sustainable transport links to some of Greater Manchester’s busiest visitor destinations. It will also run through Trafford Park, Europe’s largest trading estate and home to more than 1,400 businesses employing over 33,000 people.

The new line will run from the existing Pomona Metrolink stop, through Trafford Park, terminating at intu Trafford Centre. The six new tram stops will call at:

  • Wharfside: Next to Manchester Ship Canal and close to Manchester United Football Club.
  • Imperial War Museum North: Positioned by the world-renowned museum with access to MediaCityUK via the existing footbridges.
  • Village: On Village Way, near Village Circle and Third Avenue.
  • Parkway: At the existing Parkway Circle roundabout. The stop will include a Park & Ride with spaces for approximately 200 vehicles.
  • EventCity: By Barton Square and EventCity.
  • Trafford Centre: At intu Trafford Centre, Barton Dock Road.

Construction work began in late 2016 and services are expected to launch in 2020.
