Celebrating success at the inaugural SRE Excellence Awards
On Monday 28 April, the Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE) held its inaugural annual SRE Excellence Awards to recognise the significant achievements of its teams and the significant role they have played in making Year One of SRE a success.
The awards celebrated those who have demonstrated SRE behaviours and helped to deliver against its five outcomes throughout the first year.
The ceremony, hosted by George Murrell, Network Rail’s route renewals director (Wessex), took place at the Leonardo St Paul's, with the evening awards split into four categories:
- The SLT Awards
- The overall SRE Excellence Award
- Project/Team of the Year by Discipline
- SID Director and Capable Owner Award.
There were many successes on the night, with VolkerRail taking home The Cleaner and Greener award, and Track Project/Team of the Year.
The Tonbridge depot team was nominated for The Cleaner and Greener award after driving first-in-class low carbon track renewals, following work with Network Rail SCO and Technical Authority, to develop a plan to deliver the first low carbon renewal in the industry.
Commenting on the award, David Hughes, senior environment and sustainability manager, said: “This is a fantastic achievement, a real milestone award and great recognition for the effort put in over the last 12 months. Carbon reduction really is high on the agenda within track renewals, and we have demonstrated through collaboration that we can lead in this area by planning and implementing realistic and effective carbon reduction opportunities on our work sites.”
The team was also nominated for Track Project/Team of the Year, with the nominee stating: “Going from a standing start into the team's first renewal as VolkerRail within the Enterprise has been a fantastic achievement and one that has not been replicated in previous control periods.”
SRE commented: “Congratulations to all our winners, and everyone who was nominated and shortlisted for an award!
