Network Rail has appointed VolkerRail as the operator and maintainer of its Kirow 1200 rail mounted crane for a further three years.
The contract will see VolkerRail’s plant division continue to act as the Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM) for the crane until 2021, with options to extend.
The new contract, which began in July, also includes provision of a rapid response service in case the crane is called upon for a breakdown recovery. The crane was officially handed back to Network Rail’s principal engineering team and then signed back over to VolkerRail at the Rail Live outdoor event in June.
Commenting, VolkerRail’s plant director, Mark Jackson, said: “For the last two years our team has been working with Network Rail to complete a variety of projects across Britain’s rail network. The continuation of this contract strengthens our standing as market leaders in all Kirow crane operations, and we look forward to continuing our relationship.
