The Global Light Rail Awards, dubbed as the industry’s ‘Oscars’, celebrates excellence and innovation within the global light and urban rail sectors.

The Employee of the Year Award is presented to the person who has gone beyond the call of duty for customers, colleagues and the wider industry; the indispensable person who never accepts less than the best.

Adrian has been a part of MPT - a consortium of VolkerRail, Laing O’Rourke and Thales – for over a decade. Throughout that time, he has worked hard to empower the workforce to make the changes they want to see in relation to health, safety and wellbeing, resulting in the successful implementation of a number of safety initiatives, programmes and processes. These not only enhanced the safety culture across MPT, but also created a ‘one team’ approach to safety, leading to improved mental wellbeing, and subsequently, productivity.

The judges commended Adrian’s approach, saying: “Adrian takes staff engagement to a new level. As the HSQE manager across a large multidisciplinary organisation, his rounded and fun approach to safety and security – both fairly dry topics – makes this gentleman an inspiration to us all.

“His way of boosting morale has not only benefitted his current consortium partners, but has also captured the attention of their parent companies, with initiatives being rolled out company-wide, to help address the vital issues of physical and mental wellbeing.”

Commenting on the award, Adrian said: “I’m extremely proud to have been nominated by my peers for such a prestigious award. The work done to improve the safety and wellbeing of the MPT team has been a collaborative effort, and it is because of the open and accepting nature of the team that so many of the initiatives implemented were a success. I’d like to thank everyone for their continued support, and for nominating me for this award.”

Over the last ten years, MPT has expanded the Metrolink system to become the UK’s largest tram network, running to over 100km and 99 stops.
