Staff give back to local children’s hospice
Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice was recently visited by staff from VolkerRail, wanting to give back to their local community; by adding new life to the hospice’s gardens.
A team of 23 employees spent the time weeding, cleaning paths and mending fences around the six and a half acre garden, used by children and parents who visit Bluebell Wood.
Sandra Hind, corporate volunteer co-ordinator said: “Our gardens are incredibly important to the families who visit us. Whether they are relaxing, wandering through our sensory garden, or playing on our wheelchair friendly playground equipment; our gardens offer so many therapeutic benefits. With six and a half acres to maintain, we’re incredibly grateful to volunteers for their hard work in helping our gardens looking their best. We would like to thank VolkerRail for their hard work. We know our families will appreciate their efforts so much.”
VolkerRail has supported Bluebell Wood since 2012, raising over £8,000 through its internal hazard spotting scheme. This scheme encourages staff to proactively report all hazards and close calls, to help raise awareness about the importance of health and safety reporting.
VolkerRail HSQE director, Stuart Webster-Spriggs said: “I am immensely proud to support Bluebell Wood both in terms of raising funds but also by showing active involvement. The whole team found it an extremely worthwhile and beneficial activityand we look forward to repeating this soon.”
