VolkerRail named as British Construction Industry Awards finalist
VolkerRail has been named as a finalist in the 2023 British Construction Industry (BCI) Awards
Organised by the Institution of Civil Engineers and New Civil Engineer, the BCI Awards recognise and reward excellence in project delivery, and projects delivering positive outcomes for society.
VolkerRail is a finalist in three categories. The VolkerRailStory joint venture, currently undertaking the Hope Valley Railway Upgrade Project, is shortlisted for Community Impact Initiative of the Year and Place Making Initiative of the Year, and VolkerRail’s mental health initiative - Building Relationships on Site (BROS) is shortlisted for Health, Safety & Wellbeing Initiative of the Year.
The VolkerRailStory joint venture has committed to reducing its environmental impact and improving the lives and prospects of the communities that live close to the project area, and over the last two years, has delivered over 2,000 volunteering hours and created over £36m in social value.
BROS is an innovative mental health initiative, developed for site-based operatives, by site-based operatives, to help reduce the stigma of mental health conversations and teach operatives how to recognise and act to a colleagues change in behaviours.

Alongside VolkerRail, sister company VolkerFitzpatrick is a finalist in the Environmental Project of the Year and Transport Project of the Year categories, for the A31 Ringwood Bridge Replacement and Widening Scheme.
The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday 11 October 2023, at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
