VolkerRail’s new Matisa tamper arrives in UK

On Friday 24 July, the newest edition to VolkerRail’s fleet of On Track Machines arrived in the UK.

This high performance, universal continuous action Matisa B66 tamping machine is the latest stage of a significant investment to enhance the company’s plant division.

Equipped with a Caterpillar C18 engine to reduce CO2 emissions and noise, the new machine will work alongside the model delivered in 2019, to provide clients with a faster and more efficient tamping cycle.

Niall McCreanor, director of specialist businesses said: “As we continue to offer our clients a better and more sustainable service, we continuously look at opportunities to upgrade our fleet.

“Thanks to the efforts of our plant division and Matisa, the arrival of our new tamper not only extends our fleet to 11, but also allows us to better renew and maintain Britain's railways, providing an improved journey for passengers.”

Now in the UK, the second B66 tamper will undergo further system testing at VolkerRail’s Frodingham depot, together with tamping at a private railway, in readiness for its first production shift in September, as part of Network Rail’s National Tamping contract.
